Assalamu Alaykum,
Today’s gem is from Shaykh Navaid Aziz’s course The Gates of Mercy. In this gem, Shaykh Navaid Aziz explains The Qur'an is divinely preserved and recited with immense reward; Hadith requires verification but offers deep insight. A strong connection to both and to Allah’s ﷻ mercy, nurtures the heart and protects the mind..
Hope you enjoy!
We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
In studying the science of Hadith, one important point is the chain of narration: the shorter the chain between the narrator and the Prophet ﷺ, the more valuable and potentially authentic the hadith is. When comparing Hadith Qudsi with the Qur’an, we find two major differences:
Preservation: The Qur’an is narrated in Mutawatir form—by so many people that a mistake or fabrication is nearly impossible. In contrast, most hadith are Ahad (solitary narrations) and require verification.
Reward: Every letter of the Qur’an gives multiplied rewards. For example, alif laam meem counts as 30 hasanats. While Hadith Qudsi brings reward through study and practice, it is not recited for reward like the Qur’an.
Reciting even short phrases of the Qur’an holds immense barakah. For instance, the reward for alif laam meem equals that of saying as-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
Finally, the way we perceive Allah ﷻ deeply impacts our emotional and spiritual well-being. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that Allah ﷻ is more loving toward His slaves than a mother is to her child. Thinking positively of Allah ﷻ and trusting in His wisdom is a key to both spiritual success and emotional resilience.
May Allah ﷻ grant us deep understanding of His Book and the wisdom of Hadith, and fill our hearts with certainty in His mercy and love.
أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
