Assalamu Alaykum,

Today’s gem is from  Shaykh Omar Suleiman’s course: Torchbearers of Truth. In this gem, Shaykh Omar Suleiman explains that we should embrace Isa (Jesus) as our prophet without hesitation or apology, recognizing our close spiritual bond with him as taught by Islam.

Hope you enjoy!

We begin in the Name of Allah , the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad

An inferiority complex isn’t necessarily about the concept itself but how you feel about it. For example, you might feel uncomfortable speaking about Isa (Jesus) as your own around a Christian who constantly says “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.” You might feel like you have to apologize for claiming him or talking about him as if he belongs to you.

But know this: we believe in Isa as he taught about himself. We follow him the way his followers did, and we worship as Isa worshiped. It is not disrespectful to say, “I love Isa (AS); he is my prophet,” and we shouldn’t feel bad talking about him as our own. We have a strong affinity and closeness to him and should not shy away from that.

Isa (AS) is a Prophet of Allah who was born by His word and who will be sent back to restore truth on this earth. He is among Ulul Azmi min al-Rusul—the greatest of the messengers. Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said there is no one closer to Isa peace be upon him than himself because the prophets are brothers, and there is no prophet between them.

We have a great closeness and affinity to Isa, so we should never apologize or put qualifiers when speaking about him, even when talking to those who mention Isa often. We have every right to speak about him because the One who sent Isa revealed about him to our ummah.

May Allah ﷻ deepen our love and respect for Your prophets, and strengthen our faith in their divine message.

أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
